POINT GELLIBRAND COASTAL HERITAGE PARK

Public BBQ

Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park delivers a compelling blend of history and family entertainment along Williamstown's scenic shoreline. The expansive grassy parkland offers excellent harbour views, while children gravitate toward the well-equipped playground and fascinating rock pools along the narrow beach. Families appreciate the available BBQ facilities and picnic benches, complemented by convenient toilets and ample parking. The heritage trail weaves through remnants of the area's naval base past, with informative signage detailing Aboriginal history, early settlement, and quarantine station operations. Kids particularly enjoy clambering over the distinctive volcanic rock formations while parents watch passing ships navigate Port Phillip Bay. The adjacent walking track extends toward Altona, perfect for post-barbecue strolls. An ice cream van typically services the main car park, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. Despite the industrial backdrop, this protected headland provides a peaceful retreat remarkably close to Melbourne's centre, with Williamstown markets nearby for picnic supplies.
